Compensation Solicitor

How To Find The Best Claim Lawyers

So how, exactly, do you go about choosing the best compensation solicitor for your case? It is a big decision and one that shouldn’t be made lightly.

Don’t go on impulse with the claim lawyers you saw on the TV last night or the ones who have just happened to have put a colourful flyer through your letterbox.

Take a bit of time and get it right.

After all, making the wrong choice could end up costing you a large amount of money. And, even if your case is watertight, you still want the best possible result, ie, the most money. Picking the right law firm will mean you receive the maximum payout.

Which is, after all, what we all want and deserve.

Making The Right Choice

It seems that there is a compensation solicitor on every high street corner, on every other TV commercial and in newspapers & magazines all of them exhorting us to use their services. So, how on earth do you know which one to pick?

Just as in any industry or business there are good claim lawyers and there are some not so good. Word of mouth is often as good a way of finding reliable legal help as any other.

Ask around your circle of family and friends and someone will either know a very good compensation solicitor or will know someone who has had dealings with such a person.

If you are given a recommendation don’t just take it as read that they are as good as people say they are. Do a bit of digging!

What To Look For

At this point it is important to differentiate between a compensation lawyer and a claim management company.

A lawyer is regulated by the Law Society and must be qualified to practise law. A claims management company on the other hand are more-or-less middlemen.

They provide a link between the client and the lawyer and are paid a fee for their services by the lawyer.

Legitimate claim management companies need a license from the Ministry of Justice and provide a good service. Unfortunately some have gained an unsavoury reputation for being door knockers or ambulance chasers.

If you deal with a claims management company make sure they have a Ministry of Justice licence and ask for testimonials from previous clients.

A Good Compensation Solicitor

The question of value for money really shouldn’t come into the equation. The vast majority of claim lawyers now take cases on a no win no fee basis so there should be no question of paying out any money up front and any lawyer who does ask for a deposit is going to go out of business very quickly.

However, a no win no fee agreement does not necessarily mean that there will be no expenses involved.

The client will need to pay any expenses his compensation solicitor may incur including the cost of releasing medical and legal records.

It is also highly likely that an insurance premium will be payable which will act as an indemnity against the opponents fees should the case be lost.

Before deciding which form of claim lawyers will handle your case ensure you know exactly which costs you will be liable for and when those costs have to be paid.

Not to be overlooked is the need for your claim lawyers to be local as there will inevitably be a number of trips to the offices to sign paperwork and for meetings.

Apart from anything else you need to like and trust your compensation solicitor. Admittedly this may seem unlikely but they do have personalities. Or at least some do!

If you don’t get along or worse, don’t trust your claim lawyers, then it is time to move on and choose another company.
